SNES Modifications

Below are documents on how to convert your SuperNES into a multi standard machine.

Please read any disclaimers before you modify your own machine, all modifications are at your own risk.

Ideally you should be at least competant with a soldering iron as the modifications require some delecate desoldering of surface mounted chips.

This page was constructed entirely on Amiga

By following the text documents below you can modify your SNES / Super Famicom to a multi-standard machine. You will be able to switch the SNES between 50Hz and 60Hz for full screen / full speed gameplay. You will also be able to play any game from any country of origin on your machine without the need for any adaptors. Any serious SNES gamer will know the difference the 50-60Hz conversion can make to games; indeed one top London console shop charges gamers £34.99 + P+P for just the 50-60Hz conversion.

I have personally modified both UK and US versions of the SuperNES, but the US version is more suited for the conversion. It has a wider cart slot than the UK / Jap versions, and as a result every cart will fit in it if the two tabs are removed from the slot (A simple job). To run US games on a UK / Jap machine you will still have to use a convertor as the cart is too big to fit in the slot, unless you want to cut away the plastic from the cart slot (not recommended).

If you feel you do not have the experience to undertake the modifications, contact me and I can modify your machine for you at a for you at a nominal cost.
