Prototypes

Here are a few pictures of pre-production Super Famicom / SuperNES designs. Apologies for the poor quality but they were scanned from very old publications / very small pictures.

  • This prototype is squarer than the final model, and also has more buttons. The control pad is unchanged however, apart from the button colours. There also appears to be a headphone jack and volume control on the side.

  • Very similar to the final design, but the controller ports are to the right and the cart slot is a different shape. The power button is also red instead of grey.

  • Again very similar, but controller ports are to the left this time and there is an extra port on the front.
